MKS Celebrates 20th anniversary

System Integration

MKS, Inc. installs and sets up complete network systems from the wiring right up to full Internet access at the desktop. We have installed network systems in Hospitals throughout the United States. These networks include central file service on most any platform: DEC Unix, SCO Unix, Sun Solaris, DEC OpenVMS, Windows NT, and Novell, also custom software and interfaces. We install isolated networks with only dial-in access or interface to existing local and wide area networks.

Because MKS' Medical Division's main focus has been radiation oncology centers, (See Oncology Suites) we have developed numerous interfaces to existing hospital formats such as Health Level (HL) 7 and Dicom. In addition we have interfaced to many treatment machines including the Varian 2100 & 2300. These interfaces allow patient scheduling and billing information to be passed to the central management system (RAMS).

Not only can RAMS be accessed from the local area network, but also from any Internet node. This allows doctors to get their schedules no matter where they are, billing information is passed to health care providers, and treatment data is remotely accessible. Due to the flexibility of the Internet and of intranets (local area networks on the Internet with a private share of resources) features such as E-mail, remote access, local and remote printing, shared network drives, group scheduling, private and shared address books, and World Wide Web browsing are possible at every desktop.

MKS has the ability to customize its existing products, and create new ones depending on the sites particular needs. MKS has developed software, which has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) when necessary, for over 12 years. Some of these products include Patient Archiving and Communications System (PACS), Medical Oncology Management (MOMS), Automated Transcription System (ATS), Electronic Chart (ELC), Health Level 7 (HL7), Conformal Tomography (CT) Simulation, and the Conformal Field Projector (CFP) which is FDA approved and installed in medical facilities all over the world, including the United States, China, Germany, India and Norway.

Because different computing environments require different needs, MKS has become very flexible in a variety of operating systems. These systems include and are not limited to:

  • DEC Unix
  • SCO Unix
  • Sun Solaris
  • DEC OpenVMS
  • Windows NT
  • Novell

The same is true for the software which resides on these platforms; we program and develop in:

  • Cache (formerly MUMPS (M))
  • C
  • C++
  • Sybase
  • Oracle
  • SQL

Due to the mission critical aspect of servicing in the hospital environment, MKS has a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week (24/7) staff on call. Our Help Desk has full internet capabilities, on-line assistance and has a 24/7 response time of under an hour.
